This workshop is intended to bring together educators interested in expanding the role of computing in the entire statistical sciences curricula. The goal is to discuss how we can introduce new courses in computing and integrate computing into traditional classes in our curricula in order to train undergraduates to be better prepared for modern data analysis. The workshop will be organized to have sessions discussing:
- General area of computation in the curricula, including definitions, broad topics, difficulties, challenges, and opportunities
- Data Technologies
- Computing Environments and Programming Languages
- Statistical/Numerical Algorithms
The result of workshop will be a document that discusses the reasons for improving the level of computational instruction and identifies important aspects and alternative configurations of syllabi to create different curricula for various types of institutions. The report is aimed at providing material for others to advocate such changes in their institutions. Additionally, we want to identify practical ways to aid the introduction of such classes and curricular changes, e.g. provide training and teaching material for existing faculty. To apply for funding, you must register by the funding application deadline displayed above.
Students, recent Ph.D.'s, women, and members of underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Funding awards are typically made 6 weeks before the workshop begins. Requests received after the funding deadline are considered only if additional funds become available.
