This expository talk is mainly based on Kronheimer’s paper on ’Some non-trivial families of symplectic structures.'
Seidel showed that many symplectic 4-manifolds admit symplectic diffeomorphisms which are smoothly isotopic to the identity but not symplectically so. He used the Floer-theoretic method to detect this phenomenon. The main result of this work is that a related but weaker manifestation of the same phenomenon can be detected using invariants derived from the Seiberg-Witten equations. I’ll talk about the motivation, statement, and examples, and give the ideas of the proof.
